The Raafontuur label was designed by the Bravo Design team under guidance of founder and owner Brenden Schwartz.  Together with Lourens and Esté they sat around Bravo's boardroom table multiple times amounting to hours of dreaming and brainstorming; ultimately putting together the Raafontuur brand exactly as Lourens and Esté envisioned it

Raafontuur - it's a philosophy of life

Therefore we're not going to tell you what you must smell, what you ought to taste - we will ask you what you hear when you put your ear to the glass after the first sip, we want to know how it makes you feel...

The white wine

Chenin Blanc - initially perceived as a cultivar for blending and brandy, it has grown in popularity to stand on its own two feet as a celebrated wine.  This grape is tough, versatile, the underdog that could fight for its rightful place - just like a true South African

Wild fermented

Started in concrete, moved to barrel to finish fermentation
12 months in the barrel - combination of first, second and third fill oak
Corked
Waxed
Bottled with a song

The direct translation of the toast-poem on the bottle

This morning, I beheld my defenses dancing in the glass,
Yet your unadorned grace is my sole golden prize.
In your eyes, palaces and kingdoms reside,

stripped of pretense,
I wish to toast all that makes us human,

honoring your presence.

May I offer my dusty truth upon a silver tray,
While you sit in the late afternoon, cicadas serenading the day?
As I sit cross-legged on the mat before you, once more,
I see we are the messengers, praying for tomorrow's

more beautiful than before

The red wine

Merlot / Cabernet Savignon / a dash of Shiraz - this blend is easily consumable and weaved into the sound scape of the every day, yet a complex gift that could be kept for a special day - like the song you listen to when you need that feeling or to watch a live concert - a moment in time that means much more to you than only music

The direct translation of the toast-poem on the bottle

At long tables, I want to toast to nostalgia
Or curl up by a fireplace and fill up your glass
Wander through stories of yesterday
Keep hoping for what’s to come
Reminding each other time and again;
Here and now is our real wealth
May you seek out adventures
May you have the courage to dream
May all that fills your heart embrace your years,
In joy and sorrow, in great and small,
In the life we reclaim through togetherness
